Seven-Spotted Lady Beetle on a Peony

SevenSpotted Lady Beetle

• Seven-Spotted Lady Beetle on a Columbine
• Seven-Spotted Lady Beetle on a Peony
• Seven-Spotted Lady Beetle on a Peony
• Could not identify this bug.
• Seven-Spotted Lady Beetle on a Peony
• Nine-Spotted Lady Beetle . . . less common as their numbers are declining due to habitat destruction, disease, etc.
• This is actually a European species.
• They look very similar.
• Except for the spots, of course.
• The caterpillar of the Variegated Fritillary butterfly.
• These were all over our pansies . . .
• I did not have my glasses on, and I realized only after looking at the photos that I was concentrating on the butt of the thing . . .
• The rest are more flattering photos.
• I have a lot of photographs of these things since they were both visible and striking.
• This one looked as if it was waiting for the petals to open.
• This is a young Differential Grasshopper, also on a pansy. As mentioned in the spider gallery, just as I snapped the shot of the grasshopper, the spider jumped into the frame.
• These were in nearly every plant out there, so I have other pictures of them later on.
• I know . . . I should pare down the photos to heighten the impact of the presentation.

. . . nope, not happening any time soon . . .
• Did I mention I snapped a lot of pictures?
• This series is a particularly voracious specimen.
