An honest-to-goodness castle in the middle of nowhere

Colorado Wet Mountains Scenic DriveBishop's Castle

• An honest-to-goodness castle in the middle of nowhere
• No matter what one thinks of the guy, this is a monumental undertaking.
• The front of the place . . . those stairs are very steep , narrow, and not very deep ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• Another view of the front; hard to imagine one man built all this ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• The guy is an ironworker, and it shows ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• You can actually climb all the way up there, and that circular walkway on that ball rotates as you walk on it . . . but to get there you have to climb iron stairs with low railings.
• Another view of the back showing current areas of construction.
• Some of the later additions to the structure ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• This is a shot of the rear of the structure ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• This would make a great cover for a ICBM silo ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• Those metal gantries seem sturdy, but still unnerving to walk on ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• Believe it or not, there is a chapel built in, although I don't see the usual trappings anywhere around. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)

• The guy does decent work . . . still unnerving walking on these metal constructions. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle)
• It looks as unnerving to walk on as it looks.
• Not many people have their domain guarded by a tin dragon, Viewing this in the original size might reveal much more than just a nondescript dragon picture.

• he towers can be ascended on circular staircases inside the towers. Not a good place to be if you are claustrophobic

• First glimpse through the trees ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle )
