MoonFront Rangedawn

• It seems June of each year presents interesting opportunities to photograph the moon.
• On this particular morning the dawn provided the right amount of light to lend interest to the arrangement of clouds and the setting full moon.

This photo shows the breaking dawn with Bald Mountain providing the interesting silhouette.
• While interesting, I was more interested on how the clouds and moon combined to provide a visual treat for my morning drive.
• OK, I actually stopped to take these shots.
• That's the Front Range (Rampart Range) calling for the moon to drop down behind it.
• And that's Pikes Peak also offering up shelter for the moon to hide behind.
• What's of interest with this shot is that unless bad weather is lurking about, there are seldom clouds parked on the Peak.

Certainly not these kind of cotton-candy-clouds.
• Whatever the reason, it called out for a panoramic shot.
• I was hoping there would be a repeat of the moon touching down on the Peak, but it was still way up, and dropping slow.
• Looking East, the light was already beginning to change the feel of the view.
• Plus, the clouds below the moon were likely to obscure the moon actually setting atop Pikes Peak.
• I continued on to work, but did stop again just before heading up Ute's Pass, and snapped off this shot of the Cloud on the Peak.
• It's been a while since I shot the moon . . . and I don't mean what most people are imagining. I mean I photographed the early dawn moon.
• These were shot about a quarter mile from my house, from a pull-out on County Line Road.

The sad part with moon shots is they always look less than what one sees in person.

Cold-hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight, Red is grey, Yellow white, But you decide which is right, And which is an illusion. Moody Blues, Nights in White Satin.
• By the time I was on Ute Pass the sky had lightened considerably . . . but the moon still fought to keep from becoming nothing more than a brighter-then-normal smudge in the vastness of the empty sky.
• It would have been nice to set up a tripod shot, and get everything in sharp focus . . . but no; time was of the essence, and hand-shooting was all that it allowed.
• Near Woodland Park the front hills were still hidden from the rays of the morning sun.
• Untitled photo
• Further up the road I saw an opportunity . . .
• The trees were about to ensnare the moon as it traveled along its prescribed path.
