As in regular shot . . .

Model of Maori Canoemodel waka

• Maori canoe (or waka) model.
• Except for the blended layers shots, all shots are ISO 100, f/22, 1/20 sec.
• You can tell the blended layer shots by the weird fringing around the rope.

Blended shots are 4-5 photographs, each with varying focus points, blended into a composite with a depth of field encompassing the entire boat.
• As in regular shot . . .
• . . . blended layer shot . . .
• . . . and a quasi-black-and-white processing version which I happen to like.
• Sometime I mix it up . . . regular shot . . .
• . . . odd processing shot
• . . . and blended layer shot.

Can't figure out how to get rid of the fringing. I think the high contrast on the rope messes up the algorithm used to blend.
• The model is a little beat up . . .
• . . . it came back with us during one of our mid-90s trips to the Big Island of Hawai'i.
• It's made from odd materials . . . the logs are rolled up paper, there is some actual wood (probably bamboo), and odd little pieces.
• We liked it the moment we saw it.
• The sails are probably not in realistic positions . . .
• I had to take the thing apart to fir it in the suitcase, and I was not sure how to put it back together.
• Probably should have taken a photo of it prior to taking it apart.
• The oars were glued in there, and consequently some were bent (you can see the crease).
• Don't know why I like this processing, but I do.
• I like the gold coloring . . .
• But this shows more detail, and it somehow fits the subject.
