Information on the knife edge road.

Mesa Verde National Park

• Information on the knife edge road.
• The remnants of the road.
• About 3/4th of the way into the part, a decent place to take same photos.
• My attempt at artistic creativity
• We opted for the one self-guided tour, and the driving tour of the place.
• All the others required traveling with a group and a guide . . .
• Not the kind of thing I am known to tolerate well.
• These are impressive structures, but people tend to over-romanticize both the people and the society they lived in.
• It's been five years since I read about the Anasazi, and I have forgotten much, but I do know their population eventually exceeded their capacity to feed themselves.
• Religious leaders sucking up resources, droughts, and pressures from both outside and within resulted in the collapse of a civilization.
• Sound familiar?
• I decided on a different kind of processing for these photos.
• These particular shots are all from the canyon rim road, using a long telephoto lens.
• Look at this picture . . .
• . . . and then look at this one and see if you can spot the area above.

Not a trick question . . . just showing the distance.
• This was on the way out, after we decided to leave a more detailed tour of the place for another time.
• This bell-shaped red rock is reminiscent of the one near Sedona (AZ), only I think this looks better.
• It was late afternoon, and the light was pretty good for these kind of pictures. The rock is along US-191.
• Like I said, I tried a few different processing settings.
• These next two are pretty close to the actual light that hit the rock.
